Papiliotrema terrestris PT22AV: Novelty Yeast Biocontrol agent, bridging sustainable floral disease control with pollinator health, attractiveness and entomovectoring
PT22AV (YSY®) is a naturally occurring yeast biocontrol agent that colonizes flowers during bloom, protecting crops like apple and strawberry from diseases such as fire blight and grey mould as effectively as conventional treatments. It's proven safe for bees in both acute and long-term colony exposure studies, and notably, bees are actually more attracted to PT22AV-treated flowers, spending 25–31% longer feeding on them. Building on this natural affinity, AgroVentures is developing a "BeeVector" system that uses bees themselves to spread the yeast between flowers, turning pollinators into active biocontrol delivery agents, with EU/US registration targeted by 2028.
